A few months ago, the entrepreneur launched Zzero Hangover, a beverage intended to help alcohol drinkers overcome their hangover. Following the success of his beverage, which is being sold in a number of retail outlets, including hundreds of stores in Botswana, Twala will now be launching Revo beer on 15 December.

After testing the beer on the market for six months, Twala believe that they have a winning beer, based on the great reception they received from potential customers.

“We went to the township, and at the time the beer was in a dark bottle. People loved the state of the beer, but said that we should rethink the packaging, as they didn’t like the packaging,” he says.

Twala says for some people, the colour of the bottle they drink their beer from is important, as drinking beer is not only about the taste, but also about status. He says that some consumers associate a darker bottle with cheap beer, while they see a green bottle as being more premium.

After careful consideration and taking the advice they received from people who tasted the beer, Twala says they decided to go for a can instead of a bottle. Packaging the beer in a bottle was also going to cost the company an arm and a leg, he says.

Unknown-1“When we were looking for people to do packaging for us, they told us that getting our own bottles would cost us about R1,8 million. So, instead, we opted for the can as it was more affordable.”

And after doing research, Twala also found that there were a lot of people who preferred drinking beer from a can, he says.

Twala says he is lucky that Zzero hangover cure has been a success, as it has allowed him access to the market.

“Pubs have already ordered their packages,” he says.

Twala says R600 000 went behind the conceptualising of Revo. They also decided to buy a stake in Krügerbräu brewery, which brews Revo.

“Buying the brewery wasn’t planned. After a few conversations with the owner of the brewery, he offered me a 10% stake,” he says.

However, Twala felt that a 10% stake was not enough. “I wanted a stake that would give me a seat in the board or seats, where I would be involved in the decision-making in the business,” he says.

Twala says his plan for next year is to grow Reva beer, and to also grow the craft beers that are under the Krügerbräu stable.

He also plans to launch a caffeine-free energy drink in 2017. In order to be successful, Twala says it is important to have a clear vision.

“You mustn’t have ridiculous expectations, you must have controlled expectations. You also need to understand that things don’t always go the way you want them to,” he says.
