The 17-year-old son of Durban tycoons S’bu and Shawn Mpisane says his establishment prides itself on being a one-stop shop, providing a wide range of services for men and women, including manicures, pedicures, facials, body waxing, massage, hair colour services, beard trimming, shaving and makeup.

Mpisane says he had been planning to start his business for months, but he needed to properly implement his idea and ensure that it was unique.

“It is a surreal feeling that is the closest thing to peace, because you realise it’s the challenges and the work that you love. Also, seeing your team working and having fun, you thank God for the opportunities you created,” he says.

ROYAL AM opened its doors at the beginning of this year and according to Mpisane, it has been well received by clients. The 17-year-old has created more than 30 job opportunities.

The luxurious lounge, based in Umhlanga Rocks, Durban, will also host private events. Its team focuses on trends in the industry.

Mpisane says his desire to be independent from a young age pushed him to start his own business. He says he wants to build his brand, generate his own income and secure his future.

“Besides that, creating jobs for my peers and other young people gives me satisfaction,” he says.

The young entrepreneur says his business doesn’t interfere with his studies and managing the business has been easy, as his dedicated team help him.

He says starting his own business shows how dedicated and willing he is to build his own legacy so that when he has his own children, they will be able to live a comfortable life.

Mpisane says the lounge focuses on providing a premium experience. “We offer all our services with elegance and class,” he says.

He says developments in his life have inspired him to start his own business. According to him, starting a business is not a walk in the park, but he endured and is happy with the results.

“There is no perfect guide to entrepreneurship and mine is no different. I’m still learning and it’s still a journey. Now I’m out here creating jobs for the youth and also employing my peers and trying to help them. I want to grow this brand,” he says.

“We have been well received by our clients and even our social media is buzzing. More than anything, we want people to experience real luxury and pampering. We want to go national with this brand, but it has to start at home,” he says.

Mpisane is often seen clad in expensive clothing and has more than 26 000 followers on Instagram.

Last year, it was reported that his parents gave him a R2-million Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen as a birthday gift.
