Actress and socialite Khanyi Mbau yesterday released her own gin.

She unexpectedly ventured into the alcoholic beverages market by launching I Am Khanyi, her “millennial shimmer” gin.

She teased her Instagram followers with the news until she finally unveiled her pink spirit.

Mbau, who first burst onto South Africa’s entertainment industry as an actress on Muvhango, joins the likes of Tbo Touch and Thapelo Mokoena in launching a gin brand.

Speaking to Channel24, Mbau said she was fully involved in the process “right from concept design through to which flavour profiles would work. The gins were designed specifically to suit personas, style and personalities”.

The actress said she named the gin after herself because she wanted to be attached to everyone’s celebratory moments. “I want people to be happy,” she said.

The gin will be available from 1 December for R399 a bottle.
