South Africans are crazy about compact and – in light of the recent fuel and impending electricity tariff hikes, more importantly – budget cars.

Automative classifieds website AutoTrader has analysed search data between April and December last year to come up with a list of 10 of the most in-demand second-hand cars in SA.

Taking sales figures into account, it should come as no surprise that VW’s iconic Polo is the most popularly searched for car.

“This should be expected,” says AutoTrader CEO George Mienie.

“The Polo, now in its sixth generation, has attained near iconic status in South Africa. While it is smaller than its sibling the Golf, the Polo offers similar ride quality, great styling in and out and an attractive price tag.”
