The night might have all been about rapper AKA (Kiernan Jarryd Forbes), but we can all agree it was actress Pearl Thusi who stole the show at The Comedy Central Roast of AKA. It aired on the channel on Monday night.
As roast master, “Mama Pantha” had everyone lapping up her one-liners and begging for more.
In January, she was announced as the first female roast master in Africa. “To be the first female roast master in Africa and first black woman globally is a great achievement,” she said.
Before the show, she shared a friendly warning to AKA. “To AKA – we’ve talked a lot of mess on Twitter and in private, but now we’re going to settle this in front of the world, with no-one to protect you. This is deeper than rap beef. It will be on stage and to your face.. Oh, and I won’t be alone, as I’ve got a team of Roasters with me. So poetic.”
Twitter users shared their admiration of the actress:

“Thank you for watching everyone!” Thusi tweeted. “Thank you to everyone on the Roast Panel. Thank you to AKA for being brave. Thank you to the audience that came through. Thank you to everyone behind the camera who made it happen. Too many names to mention. Had so much fun.”
The panel included Nigerian musician, Davido (David Adedeji Adeleke); comedian and actor, Moshe Ndiki; musician Francois van Coke (Francois Badenhorst); retired soccer star Mark Fish, comedian and actress Nina Hastie, musician and dancer Moonchild Sanelly (Sanelisiwe Twisha); comedian Joey Rasdien; and musician, Papa Penny (Giyani Kulani).
